Welcome to the Tyseley Visitor Centre

Come to our Visitor Centre to learn more about sustainability and recycling. We invite schools and community groups to take part in educational workshops, courses or events about the life cycle of waste, and how our behaviour contributes to a greener planet. 

Through interactive exhibits, learn how recycling, composting, and responsible disposal play a critical role in reducing our environmental footprint. Whether you’re a teacher planning a field trip or a community leader organising an outing, the Tyseley Visitor Centre provides a unique and impactful learning experience.

Eligibility: booking made by a resident of Birmingham 

Cost: free!

Capacity: groups up to 12 

Address: Visitor Centre, Veolia HRC, James Road, Birmingham B11 2BA

Parking: on-site couch, mini-bus and car parking 

Operating times: 9am-5pm

                                 Monday-Friday 

Accessibility: disabled access and facilities on site 

Our Offer

Schools

We offer schools and children's groups a variety of educational sessions. Our programmes are curriculum-aligned to complement classroom learning. We have suitable programmes suitable for KS1, KS2, KS3, and beyond. Our resources are designed to be fun and interactive, and teach students about the importance of recycling. Our sessions use crafts, debates, and games to engage students. 

Topics covered:

  • Recycling: the Journey of Waste
  • The Waste Hierarchy (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recover)
  • Energy Recovery 

Format: 

  • Informational workshop - 1 hour to 1.5 hours 
  • Craft workshop - 1.5 hours to 2 hours 

SEND

  • We welcome SEND groups and communities. We tailor our educational material to meet the specific needs of others, and ensure the session is appropriate and engaging

 

 

Community Groups

We deliver talks and workshops for community groups. Our knowledgeable staff provide an in-depth understanding will lead you through the journey of waste, explaining the process with engaging talks and hands-on activities. Participate in workshops that teach practical skills for sustainable living, such as composting, up-cycling, and reducing single-use plastics.

Topics covered: 

  • The Journey of Waste
  • The Waste Hierarchy (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Recover)
  • The Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) process
  • The importance of recycling in an age of Climate Change

Format: 

  • Informational workshop - 1 hour to 1.5 hours 
  • Craft workshop - 1.5 hours to 2 hours

  • We welcome SEND groups and communities. We tailor our educational material to meet the specific needs of others, and ensure the session is appropriate and engaging

 

Event Space

Weekly Events: 

  • Tyseley Warm Welcome Space: Wednesdays, 11:30am-2pm 
    • Check out our Space Page- we are registered as a Warm Welcome Space. Every Wednesday we offer hot drinks, food, refreshments, and a cosy space to socialise! Feel free to pop in
    • Starting 22nd of January, 2025 until the end of March 2025 

We work with community organisations or schools to host events related to recycling or sustainability. Events include talks, repair workshops or networking events. Our Visitor Centre can offer drinks, refreshments, food and activities for participants.
